Alpine Shire

The community of Alpine Shire is a Local Government Area in the state of Victoria and it is located some 300 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, the state capital. It was formed in November 1994 following the merging of the Shires of Bright, Myrtleford, Omeo, Oxley, Yackandandah, and parts of the United Shire of Beechworth. The shire, with its estimated population of well over 12,700 residents, covers a land area of 4,839 square kilometres.

The community of Alpine Shire, which considers the town of Bright as its Council Seat, is surrounded by the Local Government Areas of East Gippsland, Indigo, Towong, Wangaratta, and Wellington.
